Performance Architecture is an international ideas competition aimed at choosing proposals for five temporary urban interventions in the scope of Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture. The competition intends to draw up architectural and urban strategies that, in reactivating the performance art approach, provide new directions as to the roles of architects, artists, and designers in the urban context. The competition selects multidisciplinary teams proposing temporary concepts and structures that will stimulate the appropriation of controversial public spaces by the city inhabitants.
Performance Architecture had 3 phases and to visually identify each phase, a color was chosen. It was red for the Open Call (until January 6), green for the Conference (February 25), and purple for the Exhibition (June 14).
The title and date of each stage of the competition were painted and crossed out as a performing act in an empty warehouse. The process was photographed and filmed so it could be used as the background for videos, posters, leaflets, and websites.
A book was created after the last phase, compiling all the winning and pre-selected works in competition.
