Desertar – Sifameca, Mouriscas, Abrantes, 2019 is a book by the photographer Dinis Santos, who was invited by the Palha de Abrantes Association to photograph the Sifameca factory.
Dinis Santos, in this book, compile a record that was at odds with the nostalgic and romanticised perceptions of the industrial world, the working class, and other productive endeavours of the 20th century.
«Sifameca draws on this ability to represent itself by astonishingly resisting, as a living monument, all the major political, social and economic transformations that have occurred over its six decades of existence. It also represents the harsh working conditions that workers faced and still face. Finally, it is also an example of the conversion of the factory into a museum and the constitution of the working class into a museum category or historical curiosity.» (Desertar, Dinis Santos, 2021, p. 71)
